内蒙古地处中国北部边疆，总面积118.3万平方公里，外联俄罗斯、蒙古国，内接八省区，是中国北方重要生态安全屏障。
北方生态安全屏障研究中心由中国生态环境部南京环境科学研究所与内蒙古生态环境厅共建，旨在汇聚多方力量，以科技为抓手，解决生态环境问题，推动生态环境保护向美丽内蒙古建设和“大生态”转型升级。
“我们要以成立北方生态安全屏障研究中心为依托，对已形成的科技成果进行系统集成和转化运用，推动污染防治向依法、科学、精准治污转型，经济社会全面绿色低碳转型。”内蒙古生态环境厅厅长王旺盛表示。
下一步，北方生态安全屏障研究中心将以大生态领域科技项目库建设作为关键，推动建立生态环境科技创新与国家重大工程、生态环境管理与产业发展政策联动机制，实施互惠共享的国际科技合作战略，构建多主体融合、多渠道汇集的生态环境科技创新格局与协同机制。
生态环境部南京环境科学研究所所长刘国才表示，近期，生态环境部南京环境科学研究所已与内蒙古生态环境厅共同提出《内蒙古自治区生态环境科技“突围”工程行动计划》，凝练出内蒙古生态系统保护与修复、环境污染防治、资源节约集约利用、绿色低碳循环发展、生态安全体系建设、美丽内蒙古建设等7个方面重大科技需求。(完)
